TIPS For Streamlining Your Closet!
Pare and organize: Choose a section; remove and place all contents outside of the space. One by one, hold and identify WHY you have the item. Imagine yourself in it - try it on if need be - you’ll know in a blink moment if it should be front and center in your closet ready to wear.
Sort 1-2-3
1. Definite keepers: return to your closet.
2. Maybes: set aside to remix with keepers in novel ways.
3. Pass-ons: place in a bag to serve someone else. This takes less time than you think and the after-effect is both stimulating and gratifying. You free your mind to re-imagine the utility and possibilities of your wardrobe.
Have a garbage bag for those unsalvageable items and random odds and ends that collect dust and you haven’t touched in years. You won’t want these back in your refreshed closet space. Having a paring partner really helps with decision-making and continuing the momentum of streamlining section by section.
Streamline: Have the front of your tops, jackets, dresses face you at the ENTRY point of your closet. It gives you a clear picture of what is available to create your outfit. If you have a reach-in closet, notice where you stand and where you look first, have clothes face you. As an artist approaches a canvas, you want your materials visually and physically available. Do the same with shoes with toes up front, greeting you as if stepping forward. You’ll dress with ease and inspiration.
4 Styling Tips plus 1
Make sure you have wardrobe staples like a little black dress, jeans that fit you well, a simple t-shirt, a button down, and an easy jean or leather jacket.
Make sure your clothes fit well.
Add color to your wardrobe. Start with one colorful piece and keep the rest of your outfit neutral. When you are comfortable with colors, you can start mixing colors.
Diversify your wardrobe. Too many of the same item can make it harder to get dressed.
Wear your clothes with confidence!
